Musksaysofficialsatthetreasuryareworkingtomakethegovernment’sbooksmoresimpletoaudit,aswellasmoreaccountabilityforwherefundsaregoing.Thechangesalsorequiretreasuryemployeestomorefrequentlyupdatethecongressional“donotpay”list,whichhighlightsfraudstersandillegalfronts.
“NobodyinTreasurymanagementcaredenoughbefore.IdowanttocredittheworkinglevelpeopleinTreasurywhohavewantedtodothisformanyyears,buthavebeenstoppedbypriormanagement,”Musksaid.
“EverythingatTreasurywasgearedtowardscomplain[t]minimization.People[who]receivemoneydon’tcomplain,butpeoplewhodon’treceivemoney(especiallyfraudsters)complainveryloudly,sothefraudwasallowedtocontinue,”headded.
